On-Bike Pre-Trip Inspection
Before you can start the practical riding section of your K53 test, you must demonstrate to the examiner that you can safely operate the motorcycle's essential controls and electrical components.This inspection happens immediately after you mount the bike.
Critical Test Rule
If any required items are broken, non-operational, or the motorcycle is deemed unroadworthy, the examiner will fail you and immediately discontinue the test.
The 5-Minute Grace Period
If the examiner identifies any minor defects during this routine, you are allowed a maximum of 5 minutes to rectify them on the spot.
If you cannot fix the issue within this time limit, you will fail the test.
The Step-by-Step Procedure
To score full marks and avoid critical errors, follow this exact sequence after you have mounted the motorcycle.
1.Ignition On:Turn key to ON.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position without starting the engine.
2.Check Dash and Gauges
Look for warnings.
Check the instrument cluster. Ensure the warning lights illuminate and turn off normally, and verify that gauges show no malfunction indicators.
3.Test Electricals and Lights
Operate switches.
Systematically test and point out the operation of the following components to the examiner.
4.Ignition Off
Turn key to OFF.
Turn all electrical switches to the OFF position and turn the ignition key off.
5.Test Controls and Pressure
Physical function check.
Physically check the mechanical controls.
6.Check Throttle
Verify return action.
Twist the throttle grip to verify it rotates smoothly and snaps back automatically to the closed position when released.
7.Check Kick Start
If applicable,Verify the kick start lever operation by ensuring it is securely folded away and moves freely (only if your motorcycle is equipped with one).
8.Adjust Mirrors
Final rear-view check.
Physically adjust both rearview mirrors using your hands to ensure maximum rear-view vision from your seated riding position.
