Parallel Parking - Important Rules and Assessment Criteria
1. Only three movements are permitted during the manoeuvre:
One reverse movement into the parking bay.
Two additional movements to correctly position the vehicle.
All movements must be completed without leaving the parking bay.
2. The steering wheel must be turned immediately before the vehicle comes to a stop, not while the vehicle is stationary.
3. If the manoeuvre cannot be successfully completed on the first attempt, the vehicle must be repositioned at the designated starting point before a second and final attempt is made.
4. There is no limit to the number of movements permitted when leaving the parking bay.
5. However, a full 360-degree observation must be carried out before every movement.
6. The indicator signal must be activated when moving forward and exiting the parking bay.
7. No signal is required for movements made entirely within the demarcated parking bay.
8. Stopping and then continuing in the same direction is not regarded as an additional movement.
9. You may stop at any stage during the manoeuvre.
10. However, if the vehicle remains stationary for longer than five seconds, a full 360-degree observation must be completed before moving again.

Leaving the Parallel Parking Bay
1. Check all mirrors.
2. Check the roadside blind spot.
3. Signal your intention to move towards the roadway.
4. Select 1st gear.
5. Obtain clutch control (manual vehicles) or prepare the vehicle to move safely.
6. Conduct a full 360-degree observation to ensure it is safe to proceed.
7. Release the parking brake and move forward slowly.
8. Steer out of the parking bay smoothly, ensuring that you do not touch any obstacles or mount the kerb.
9. Once safely clear of the parking bay and established in the traffic lane, cancel the indicator signal.
