Incline Start (Hill Start) Procedure
When instructed by the examiner to proceed to the incline, follow the correct K53 procedure to demonstrate that you can stop and move off on a hill without allowing the vehicle to roll backwards.
Procedure
Drive up the incline and stop at the designated point as indicated by the examiner, ensuring that the vehicle remains stationary and does not roll backwards.
Apply the parking brake to secure the vehicle.
Select neutral (manual transmission vehicles only).
Conduct an observation check by checking all mirrors.
Check your blind spot(s), where applicable.
Signal your intention to move off, if required.
Select first gear.
Obtain clutch control by bringing the clutch to the biting point while maintaining control of the vehicle.
Perform a final observation by checking your mirrors and both blind spots to ensure it is safe to move off.
Release the parking brake while maintaining clutch control.
Move off smoothly without allowing the vehicle to roll backwards at any stage.
Once the manoeuvre has been completed and it is safe to do so, cancel the signal, if applicable.
Important Points
The vehicle must remain under full control throughout the manoeuvre.
Rolling backwards, even slightly, may result in penalty points or failure of the manoeuvre, depending on the circumstances.
Remember to perform all K53 observations and signalling procedures exactly as you would on a public road.
