For each yard test manoeuvre, a detailed penalty point table is provided. This table indicates the number of penalty points that may be allocated for errors made during the execution of specific elements within each manoeuvre, such as:

How Penalty Points Are Applied

Penalty points are awarded for any action or inaction that demonstrates incorrect driving technique or failure to follow required procedures. These include:
- Actions performed incorrectly
For example: incorrect vehicle positioning when preparing for a turn.
- Actions that are unnecessary or unsafe
For example: stopping the vehicle without valid reason or instruction.
- Required actions that are omitted
For example: failing to signal an intended movement or direction change.
Understanding the Severity of Errors
The number of penalty points allocated to each error reflects its level of importance within the test criteria. In general: - Low penalty values indicate minor procedural errors.
- Higher penalty values indicate critical control or observation failures that significantly impact safety and test performance.
For example:
- Failing to perform a required 360-degree observation check during a manoeuvre may result in 5 penalty points.
- Not signalling your intention when required may also result in 5 penalty points.
These examples demonstrate that observation, communication, and vehicle control are key competencies assessed throughout the test.
