Incline Start
The Incline Start evaluates your ability to bring the motorcycle to a stop on an uphill gradient and pull away smoothly without losing control, spinning the rear tire, or rolling backwardPhase 1: The Precision Stop
1. Stop on the Incline.
Ride up the ramp and come to a complete stop exactly where the examiner indicates.
You must be in first gear as you stop, and you cannot let the bike slip backward at all during the transition.
2. Anchor with the Rear Brake.
Secure the stationary motorcycle on the hill by keeping your right foot firmly pressing the rear brake pedal.
Do not rely on your front brake, as your right hand needs to remain free to operate the throttle smoothly.
Phase 2: Observations and Preparations
3. Check Mirrors and Blind Spot.
Look into your rear-view mirrors and perform a physical head-turn to check the appropriate blind spot.
4. Signal Intention.
Activate your indicator if required by your specific test track layout.
5. Find Clutch Control.
Slowly ease out the clutch lever until you feel the engine find its friction point (biting point).
Hold the lever steady right there so the engine is ready to fight gravity.
6. 360-Degree Observation.
Before releasing the brake, perform a full, deliberate 360-degree look-around scan to confirm the entire environment is safe.
Phase 3: Moving Off Smoothly.
7. Smooth Pull-Away.
Balance your throttle input against a gradual release of the rear brake and clutch to move forward.
You must pull away without rolling backward or lifting the front wheel off the tarmac.
8. Clean Foot Placement.
As soon as the motorcycle begins rolling forward, immediately place both feet up onto the front footrests to maintain your center of balance.
9. Progressively Accelerate.
Apply throttle smoothly as necessary to clear the incline cleanly.
10. Cancel Indicator.
Flick your indicator switch off once you have successfully completed the pull-away sequence.
Test Violations and Fail Criteria.
Minor Penalties (Points Lost)Loss of Traction: Spinning the rear wheel while trying to pull away will earn you a penalty. Showboating / Accidental Wheelies: Lifting the front wheel off the road surface during acceleration will result in lost points.
Immediate Test Failures (Instant Disqualification)Your test will be discontinued and you will fail on the spot if.
You allow the motorcycle to roll backward at any stage.
You allow the motorcycle to roll forward when it is legally required to remain completely stationary.
